Windows 11 is the latest operating system released by Microsoft. It will be available for use later this year, 2021.
Windows 11 has all the security features and power of windows 10 with a redesigned and refreshed look. It also has new tools, sounds, and applications. While we wait for its eventual release, it is important to enquire if your PC has the minimum requirements to support Windows 11 OS.
Minimum system requirements for windows 11
- Processor: 1 Gigahertz, with 2cores, Compatible 64 bits processor or SoC.
- Memory: 4GB
- Storage: 64GB
- System firmware: Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI), secure Boot capable.
- Trusted Platform Module: version 2.0
- Graphics card: DirectX12 compatible graphics with Windows Display Driver Model 2.0
- Display: Greater than 9 inches with HD resolution (720p)
- Internet connection: For Home Edition; internet connectivity and Microsoft account to complete device set up on first use. For all Editions: internet access to perform updates, downloads and use some features.
You can manually check if your system meets the above minimum requirements or alternatively you can use the Compatibility Application to check.
Windows 11 Compatibility Applications
- PC Health Check app: This was released by Microsoft to enable easy assessment of windows 11 Compatibility with your PC, however, it was removed online due to its inability to give users detailed information about why their PC was not compatible with windows 11 OS
- WhyNotWin11: This alternative application was not developed by Microsoft, however, it can check for windows 11 Compatibility with your PC and also gives you more detailed information than the PC Health check app. The app can be downloaded free from Github
Systems presently running on windows 10 can be upgraded for free when Windows 11 becomes available, provided the PC meets the minimum requirements to support Windows 11 OS.
Individuals whose PC are not compatible will need a new compatible PC on or before October 14th 2025, because Microsoft will halt support for windows 10 on 0ctober 14 2025. This simply means that Microsoft will no longer provide security features and update for all editions of Windows 10 except windows 10 enterprise long-term support channel users who have until 2029.
