Nigerian International passport
The Nigerian international passport is an official document of the Nigerian government that contains a given person's identity. It helps its holder travel under its protection to and from foreign countries. The document certifies the personal identity and nationality of its holder.
Who Needs an International passport?
Individuals who intend to travel outside their country for business, leisure or other activities such as education need an international passport.
Types of Nigerian International passports
► 32-page Nigerian international passport
► 64-page Nigerian international passport
► Enhanced new E-passport
► The Nigerian international passport can also be categorized based on colour:
● Standard (green cover) e-passport for Ordinary citizens
● Official e-passports (blue cover) for government officials and Nigerian diplomats.
32-page Nigerian international passport
This is commonly used by leisure travellers or individuals who do not travel internationally very often.
It has only 32 pages, meaning it can only be used for international travel 32 times within its validity period. Individuals who make international trips more than 32 times in five years are advised to apply for the 64-page Nigerian international passport to avoid the frequent need for a new international passport.
64-page Nigerian international passport
This is suitable for individuals who make frequent international trips in a year. Business travellers or individuals whose job requires frequent international trips throughout the year may consider applying for the 64-page Nigerian international passport.
Enhanced new Nigerian E-passport
The new Nigerian international passport is available in these categories
- 32 page 5-year validity for adults and minors
- 64 page 5-year validity for adults and minors
- 64 page 10-year validity for adults (18 years and above) only
Adults can choose from any of the three categories stated above. However, children less than 18 years of age, have the option of choosing between categories 1 and 2 only. The 10-year validity new Nigerian international passport is not for persons below 18 years due to the expected changes in their physical appearance.
How much is a Nigerian international passport
The cost of a Nigeria international passport depends on the type of passport, the validity and the age group of the individual.
32-page Nigerian international passport
Individuals less than 18 years = N 8,750
Individuals who are 18 - 59 years = N15,000
Individuals who are = N8,750
64-page Nigerian international passport is N20,000 irrespective of age.
Enhanced new Nigerian international passport
32 Page 5-year Standard Passport is N25,000
64 Page 5-year Standard Passport is N35,000
64 Page 10-year Standard Passport for adults only (18 years and above) is 70,000.00
32 Page 5-year Official Passport is 15,000
NOTE: Payment for your Nigerian international passport must be made online, in either naira or U.S. Dollars. Cash payments are not accepted.
Requirements for Nigerian international passport
Adults (18 years and above)
► Completed passport application form
► Two recent passport-size photographs
► Proof of payment
► Letter of ID from local government/ state of origin (valid staff ID card attached)
► Birth certificate
► Completed Guarantor’s form (with a photocopy of the data page of Guarantor’s Nigerian e-passport and one passport-size photograph of the Guarantor)
► Marriage certificate where applicable
► Name change affidavit where applicable
► Police report in case of lost passport
► Letter of introduction from appropriate State Government, Federal Government Ministry / Organization [ applicable for official passport only]
► Letter of appointment / last promotion [ applicable for official passport only]
Minors (below 18 years of age)
► Completed passport application form
► One passport-size photograph (signed on the reverse side by consenting parent/s)
► Birth certificate
► Evidence of Nigerian citizenship of parent/s
► Letter of consent from both parents (valid court order if one parent is unavailable)
► Proof of payment
* If the child is adopted, a Court Order and Letter of approval from the State Ministry of Women and Child Development is required.
Requirements for the Enhanced E-Passport is the same as the existing passports, in addition, the National Identification Number (NIN) is required and mandatory for issuance of the New Passport.

How to apply for a Nigerian international passport
The Nigerian international passport application process can be done either online or offline. Both methods will yield a hard copy of your passport.
To apply for a Nigerian international passport online, follow the steps below

Get the above requirements ready
Step 2:
Apply online at https://portal.immigration.gov.ng by clicking on the type of passport application you want e.g. new passport, Nigerian passport renewal, Lost passport, Damaged passport or Correction of data.
Step 3:
Complete the online application form, select the Nigerian immigration office in the state you wish to obtain the passport, proceed to make payment online and obtain reference and application ID numbers.
Steps 4:
Proceed to the Nigerian immigration Office selected during the online application with relevant required documents including evidence of payment made.
Nigerians outside the country are to submit their application at the nearest Nigeria Embassy/High Commission or Consulate selected during the online application.
Note: Once you have submitted your online application, you are required to appear in person at your specified immigration office for photographs and biometrics to be taken
To apply for a Nigerian international passport offline you will need to gather all the relevant documents stated above and proceed to the nearest Nigeria immigration office.
Nigerians living abroad can apply for their international passport at their nearest consulate, or via the online application.
