Whatsapp or Whatsapp Messenger is an American freeware owned by Facebook, Inc. It allows users to send text messages and voice messages, makes voice and video calls, and share images, documents, user locations, and other content.
Whatsapp runs on mobile devices but is also accessible from desktop computers, as long as the user's mobile device remains connected to the Internet while they use the desktop app.
Whatsapp Messenger requires a cellular mobile telephone number to sign up. In January 2018, Whatsapp released a business app targeted at business owners, called Whatsapp Business, to allow companies to communicate with customers who use the standard Whatsapp.

Whatsapp was originally available for mobile devices only. The company launched Whatsapp web in January 2015. The Whatsapp web is simply an extension of the user’s phone.

Whatsapp Web
To start using Whatsapp web, follow these steps:
1. On your computer, open your browser and visit https://web.whatsapp.com/
2. You will be asked to scan the QR code that appears on the screen.
If you are using an android device;
♦ open Whatsapp on your mobile device
♦ tap the vertical three-dots icon [more options]
♦ tap link a device. Follow the on-screen instructions.
If your device is an iPhone
♦ open WhatsApp
♦ tap on Settings
♦ followed by tapping on link device.
After doing the above scan the QR code that's there on your computer screen. The Whatsapp web will now be active on your computer system.
Check the box on the QR screen on your computer or portal to stay logged in on this device.
You can start chatting with your contacts by opening their chat history or start a new chat by clicking on the new chat icon.
Your conversation still remains end-to-end encrypted even when using the web application. The recipient will not know if you’re using the web or the mobile app.
Note: for Whatsapp web to work on PC, The mobile account must be active with a good internet connection.

If you prefer using Whatsapp as an app for your PC, rather than using your PC browser, follow these steps:♦ on your PC, visit www.whatsapp.com/download.
♦ click the Download button.
♦ once the Whatsapp apk file is downloaded, install Whatsapp on your system and open it.
♦ you'll now see the QR code.
♦ before scanning the code, remember to check the keep me signed in box just below the QR code. This saves the stress of rescanning the code every time you open the app.
♦ scan the QR code from your phone by opening Whatsapp.
♦ Depending on your device type follow the steps stated above for an android or iPhone device
Advantages of Whatsapp web

Disadvantages of WhatsApp web
- Whatsapp web will disconnect if your phone is not connected to an active internet connection.
- When your mobile device is switched off, the web app will not work.
- Not compatible with all browsers except Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, Microsoft Edge, Safari (macOS 10.8 and above only).
- Whatsapp web does not support voice and video calls to individual contacts like the mobile app do. However, it’s possible to make group video calls on the web version through the Messenger Rooms feature. Once you create a room, simply share the link with the people you want to invite to the group video chat. The Messenger Rooms are not end-to-end encrypted.
